Today when I was volunteering, the kids were sitting in a half-circle listening to a book that was being read to them. During story time, they are encouraged to listen silently, but one kid, surprised at one of the pages in the book (in which a dog has multi-colored spots on his coat) yelled out "What the heck?!" The kid sitting next to him followed suit. "What the heck?!" And the kid sitting next to him yelled, "What the molasses?!"
I laughed, but covered my mouth quickly. It seemed like something he had heard somewhere else. It reminded me of the Batman & Robin cartoons from the 1980's my brother used to watch when he was little. Batman and Robin would shout out random phrases that were more suited to word bubbles of comic strips, things like, "Holy Eggbeaters, Batman!"
